Grading
This is course is a project based course. Even the final exam is a project - a problem-solving challenge.
Total points are used, nothing is weighted.
Formative assessments are not graded. (Tutorials, practice activities, quizzes). These may appear in PowerSchool but will not be counted towards the final grade. Typically they are italicized.
Scoring is on a 5-point scale.
Anything can be resubmitted to improve your score. Your goal is to work towards mastery of a topic or skill.
Late policy - All graded work will be given an assigned due date. If you need extra time to complete an assignment for ANY reason, simply inform the instructor and work to identify a time frame for completion of the assignment. My goal is for you to learn the concepts and topics. The last day for any assignment to be turned in is the Friday prior to Final Exams.
Rubrics are provided for all assignments. This allows you to review what you need to do to earn a specific score. Feedback will be provided as you work through the activity to aid you in learning the concepts or skills.
Self-Reflection. At times, you will be asked to reflect on the work you did, identify your strengths and define your weaknesses to determine how you can improve.
Certification. As we work through various topics in the course, there are various skills a student can be certified as an expert in. Certification as an expert indicates you are working at the 5 point level of that topic or skill. Once you are certified as an expert, you are in a position to help other students who are struggling with that topic or skill.
Activities and assignments can be individual, partner, or team. If you are working with a partner or team, you are expected to do your share of the work. In the event you choose to not fulfill your responsibilities, your grade will reflect your efforts.
Term is worth 80% of your final course grade
Final exam is worth 20% of your final course grade
